In other news...(non-baby related)

We FINALLY have furniture/apartment pictures to put up! We got our furniture sometime in July, and just today got rid of our old furniture! We had the hardest time trying to 1.) Find a place to drop-off the old furniture, 2.) Find a place to drop-off the furniture that was open when Ryan was home, and 3.) Find someone to help Ryan load the furniture because I am completely helpless...I mean I could help with 15lbs of it, but I don't think that would do much good. I carried the cushions :) Another Marine, who also lives in the same apartment complex, came over to help, Ryan. (Thanks, Jennings!)

When we moved the old love seat out, I had her locked in the bedroom and after the guys left, I let her come out to explore. She came straight out to the living room, looked at the empty space and turned back at me with a face that I swear said, "uh...what??" It was hilarious. 

This morning, after Ryan left for work, the cat came in and decided to sleep on top of me. I woke up to her butt/hind paws in my face while she used different parts of my body to prop her paws up to give herself a bath. It was a really pleasant way to wake up.

 She LOVES Ryan, and loves me when Ryan isn't available, ha! Which really works out perfect for us, because I like cats -more at a distance - and Ryan loves cats. She has really taken to sleeping on his chest while he watches TV. It is 100% adorable.

Ugh! Now that I have become the crazy old cat lady -  I think I am going to finish this post. Tomorrow I will put up a 20 weeks post and HOPEFULLY get a picture, although I promise you all I have not changed in the past two weeks!

Maybe I'll even make Ryan write something tomorrow...

19 Weeks...Brings on Insomnia...

The weeks are flying by! I can't believe we are basically halfway there! Crazy.

As I mentioned last week I have started to have a little bit of queasiness which hasn't been too bad, but enough to make for a couple rough mornings. At this point the worst thing that I am experiencing is the inability to sleep. I think I have been sleeping on the couch more than a bed for the past three weeks. I plan on asking our doctor for a remedy for this, because it is driving me mad. Melissa, Ryan's sister, recommended a pillow which she said was amazing...I am going to be buying that first thing tomorrow.

I am so tired, and so, so crabby, but I will at least try and end this on a positive note :) I have been able to feel the baby move a lot more this week, and he/she is a lot more active at night and in the mornings, around 6 or 7. I swear the second I start playing oldies music, still, the baby starts moving like crazy. It's pretty cool. We find out next week the sex of the baby, and I am actually getting excited to find out. Everyone has been asking me for pictures of the baby bump, and I promise I will get some out when I am not feeling totally tired and nasty and bloated and huge and gross and tired. Did I mention I was crabby earlier? ;-)

Hmm...well I promised to leave this on a positive note... Ryan and I have been doing a little relaxing this weekend and we went and saw The Help in theatres on Friday night. It was a really good movie and I recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen it yet. Ryan's been doing pretty good, he finished his driving course this week and goes back to his normal shop starting on Monday. He has been so awesome while I am going through some of these nasty pregnancy symptoms and I feel so blessed to have the best guy ever because he makes it all so much more bearable!

Ryan and I have been debating on whether or not we wanted to get a pet, and we were going back and forth on what type of dog we wanted. We decided this weekend that we would check out a couple of the animal shelters in the area to see if they had any dogs we liked. While we were at the shelter at Camp Pendleton, we decided to also peek at the cats. We saw a couple that we liked but we were not 100% positive so decided to sleep on it. The next day, today, at the very last minute decided we wanted to go back and get one of the cats we looked at, Miss Kitty! She is a Siamese Mix and is four years old. She is a sweet girl and is a little vocal, likes attention but is also independent as well, so far, so good!

She is starting to warm up to her new home, and in fact, just jumped up and is purring away next to me as I type this right now. 

As I noted earlier, we also went to Babies R Us to get a sleep pillow, and I am excited to try it out tonight!

Weekly Update/ 18 Weeks Already!?/Regurgitated Apples

I can't believe we are at 18 weeks already. In just two weeks we have our next doctor's appointment and ultrasound. I've been feeling pretty good this week, and I am finally starting to get some sleep, thank God.

***UPDATE***
Just when I am thinking that I am starting to feel better, BAM, I go and puke at work while interviewing a new intern. Awesome. Luckily for me (and for her) I was able to usher her into a different room while running away and puking up this mornings apple in my office rather than right in front of her. And this my friends, is class. Pure class.

How Our Baby's Growing:

Head to rump, your baby is about 5 1/2 inches long (about the length of a bell pepper) and he weighs almost 7 ounces. He's busy flexing his arms and legs — movements that you'll start noticing more and more in the weeks ahead. His blood vessels are visible through his thin skin, and his ears are now in their final position, although they're still standing out from his head a bit. A protective covering of myelin is beginning to form around his nerves, a process that will continue for a year after he's born. If you're having a girl, her uterus and fallopian tubes are formed and in place. If you're having a boy, his genitals are noticeable now, but he may hide them from you during an ultrasound. -Baby Center

It was a busy week for Ryan and I. He is currently taking a HMMWV (Pronounced Humvee/High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle-fun fact) driving course, and has one more week left. From what he tells me, the hardest part is not going crazy from the terrible drivers in the course. There are several other Marines in the course who literally just got their drivers license and do not know how to drive. Some of the stories that Ryan tells about their driving even makes me want to go crazy. We're pretty sure he has some good whiplash from one of the drivers.

My first week of work was really good, I have been very busy! I will be working full time until the middle of October. My boss, Tonya, is really great and brings her dog into work with her everyday. His name is Cyrus and is a huge rottweiler...it makes me want a dog SO bad!!

This weekend has been SUPER relaxing. On Saturday we hardly left the apartment, watched a few movies. Oh and get this...I made Ryan watch Legally Blonde with me. I can't say he enjoyed it, but he definitely laughed at a few parts. Today (Sunday) we are going to go watch the new movie, The Help, which I am REALLY excited about. I hope it is as good as it looks.

I Got Sunshine...

Baby Scrupps has some good taste in music. I listen to oldies a lot, usually when I can't sleep at night or when I wake up in the morning. I thought I noticed more movement from the baby when I was listening to certain songs but I wasn't positive. I decided to test it out this morning and sure enough whenever I play The Temptations, the baby goes crazy groovin' to the music. I told Ryan about it this morning and when he got home from work he started playing My Girl and sure enough baby was dancing along, and he was able to feel the baby move for the first time!

...New Location!

Sorry for any confusion, but I HATED that other website. There were so many glitches, and it was impossible to add any photos. And let's be real, what is a blog/website without pictures?! I am pretty new to this website/blogging thing so stick with me, people! Hopefully this will work out better, I already like it WAY more!

Week 17 & Kelsey's New Job!

It has been an exciting week here at the Scrupps' residence! I FINALLY heard back from one of the jobs I applied for and had an interview on Friday, August 5th. The job was at a non-profit organization in Oceanside called Ivey Park Ranch Association, which is an organization that assists special needs children with recreational therapy. They have two programs, a day care/pre-school and an equestrian program. When I applied for the job, it was only described as "non-profit in Oceanside," so I literally had no idea what I was getting myself into. When the Executive Director called for a phone interview, she gave me a brief overview of the organization and directed me to their website (http://www.iveyranch.com/index.htm). Sounds like a great place! The interview went really well and by the end of that same day I got a phone call asking me to take the position! The actual job is very similar to what I was doing in Tacoma, having a strong emphasis in Development. I am VERY curious to see how everything works out because what we had 4-6 people doing at WWEE in Tacoma, at this new place it will be myself and the Executive Director, Tonya. Wish me luck :) Some perks of this job are: it is mostly part time, with mostly regular hours of 20-25 per week. It will occasionally be 40 (or more) during really busy fundraising events or other misc. busy times, but will primarily be pretty low key. It does not have benefits, but really doesn't matter because I am 100% covered by the military insurance (thanks Ryan!). Part of my office will look over the playground where I can see the kiddos playing on their break, and the other part looks over the horse stables where I can watch them training and riding. I think I will really like it there!

Well, enough about the job!! Geesh, I am long winded tonight apparently...Nothing too new or exciting with the baby this week. However, Ryan and I did go to Babies R Us on Sunday to start a registry and to just poke around and see what we need. I think we probably looked like deer in the headlights. It was VERY overwhelming at first, but after the initial shock started to wear off, we had some fun with it! I think the part Ryan liked best was having the power of the scanning "gun". We basically were just looking at essentials today and will finish the registry when we know the sex of the baby, so it will be a little more personalized. We learned many things today, such as: the price of diapers is RIDICULOUS, there are like 800 pieces that go into a freaking car seat/stroller, apparently there is a difference between a receiving blanket and a swaddling blanket and the baby will outgrow so much of this stuff so fast that we might need another registry for his/her first birthday!

As far as the pregnancy goes, it has been an up and down week. Every time I eat I feel really crummy afterwards for a couple hours which has been making meal times dreadful. I hope this wears off soon! My back has been killing me, too. But other than that I have been doing really well and feel really lucky in comparison to how other expectant mothers have been around this time! Let's hope it stays that way!

 Week 17

Ryan and I decided to go to the beach this weekend. We ended up in Carlsbad, CA. Had a great lunch at a place called St. Germaine's and then relaxed and played in the water at the State Beach in Carlsbad. It was really fun, relaxing and amazing people watching :)
